Hiking and walking in Porsgrunn

Porsgrunn has many exciting options for hikers: forest trails, shoreline trails, island-hopping trails.

Bergsbygda - an exciting area

One of the most fascinating areas is Bergsbygda, with its wealth of natural treasures. The rift valley landscape can be hard to navigate, but the fabulous scenery, flora and fauna make it well worth the effort.

  • It’s essential to bring a good map with you. The sheet covering this area is “Grenland, blad 1 Porsgrunn”.

The view from the summit of Bergimellom (175 m) couldn’t be finer. Away to the west you can see the communities on the Eidanger peninsula, while you look down on the Demningane nature reserve at the foot of the hill.

Walking along the coast

Olavsberget and Kattøya are great starting points for a trip along the coast. Don’t forget your fishing rod! The island of Kattøya is densely forested and undulating, sloping away steeply into the sea in many places. Its highest point is 41 metres above sea level.

Sandøya, outside Brevik, is a popular destination for walkers and cyclists. To request a map, call Skien tourist office at +47 35 90 55 20.
